3rd BRM-ASHA Awards Ceremony Held After a gap of 2 years due to Covid19, the Bharati Rath Memorial Academy of Special Human Abilities (BRM-ASHA) held its 3rd edition in collaboration with Open Learning Systems in Bhubaneswar last night. The Chief Guest, Mayor of Bhubaneswar, Mrs. Sulochana Das in her address said that Bhubaneswar is being converted into a disability-friendly smart city. She further stated that some of the disability-friendly parks under BMC are not being fully utilized by people.
The Guest of Honour, MLA, North Bhubaneswar, Mr. Susanta Kumar Rout said that he would be utilizing the MLA lad funds for the infrastructure development for Persons with Disabilities.
Earlier during the inauguration of the award ceremony and the Annual Day function of Open Learning Systems, Mr. Prakash Rath, CEO, OLS and Secretary, BRM-ASHA, read out the annual reports of both organizations highlighting the achievements.
The 3rd BRM-ASHA Awardees were:
Ms. Phula Soren in the category of excellence in Cricket for Women with Visual Impairment; Mr. Nakul Badnayak in the category of excellence in Cricket for Men with Visual Impairment; Mr. Kumar Devdutt in the category of International Adventure Cycling; Mr. V. Ramesh Rao in the category of International Wheelchair Fencing; Ms. Tazeen Qureshy, Ms. Satrupa Samantaraya and Mr. Prasanta Kumar Sahoo in the category of Journalism on Persons with Disabilities; Dr. Stiti Pragyan Dalbehera in the category of Individual Contribution in Healthcare Services; SOA University & SUM Hospital in the category of institutional collaboration in healthcare services for persons with disabilities leading to Guinness World Records and TARZOO in the category of dedicated service for animals requiring care and protection.
The students and staff members of Open Learning Systems gave dazzling performances in the cultural program held on the occasion.
The work of Ms. Arpita Mohapatra and Ms. Preeti Sushama, Executive Committee members of BRM-ASHA were lauded for taking care of vulnerable dogs and cats.
Ms. Kasturi Mohapatra, Founder, of OLS, Dr. Ajit Mohanty, President, of OLS, Dr. Pratap Rath, Secretary, OLS and Mr. Pradipta Rath, Vice President, of BRM-ASHA also spoke on the occasion exhorting people to support the efforts of mainstreaming of people with disabilities.
The staff members of OLS led by Ms. Manjushree Patnaik, Ms. Sagarika Sahoo, and Mr. Damodar Dash conducted the event with aplomb.
